    Modern Batman Birthday

Walt had a birthday last week, and I am still trying to get over the fact that my once teenie baby is now THREE!  This year is going to be the last year that I host a birthday party at home for him for awhile, so it was my last chance to go all out decorating my house with cute kids decor until Oliver gets older.  Walt is obsessed with superheroes, particularly Batman, so I knew right away that would be the perfect theme.  Utilizing Batman’s color scheme allowed me to keep the decor monochrome.  We learned the hard way on his first birthday not to spend a ton of money on decor, as it rained the entire time and ruined everything!  I was thrilled that we were blessed with great weather (minus the BLAZING heat that day with 100% humidity), but this time I was able to find all of his decorations, including invitations, shipped from my favorite new company in Austrailia for under $200! My OREO Creation

OREOs are my all time favorite, so when the opportunity came for me to partner with them on their My OREO Creation campaign I immediately said yes!  Mondelēz, the makers of OREO cookies, is inviting Walmart shoppers to come join in the fun of their in-store demos and try some of their unique OREO flavors.  Davis and I always love trying out the new flavors OREO comes out with, so we had to go check out the flavors with our little “shnack king”.  It was also a pretty perfect way to kick off Walt’s birthday week! Picture Taking Tips for Moms with Toddlers & Babies

Stressed out kids unhappy with taking a picture

I get a lot of questions about how I get pictures with both of my boys paying attention to the camera at the same time.  Here are a few things that have worked for me.  Let me start off by saying this: I’m not above bribery!  It’s no easy task getting the picture I envision if Walt is having a “toddler” day, but with a lot of trial and error, I’ve figured out a few things that work amazingly (most of the time).

    Orzo Goodness

This recipe is so easy, healthy, and good! I can prepare it and have it ready to eat in about 45 minutes.  Fast, healthy meals for my family? Yes, please!  I’m no chef, so I’m very proud to say that I came up with this one completely on my own, with no added help from Pinterest.

I started making this when Walt was first starting solids.  He had a hard time adjusting to certain textures.  He would eat ground meats, but not sliced meats.  He would eat rice but didn’t want any kind of traditional pasta.  I tried orzo, a pasta which looks like a rice, and he loved it.  Mom win!  This recipe is also only 320 calories per serving and packed with protein. Perfect for bikini season, haha.  I added a nutrition chart at the end of this post.  Hope you guys like it! It’s certainly a favorite around my house!  Read more…

    The Reason

I have had a TON of questions about my blog.  Not just about how I created it, but why I created it as well. I decided to write a post to explain a few things.

Taking this blogging journey was scary, to say the least, but so worth it.  Being a stay at home mama is seriously something that I’m so passionate about.  I truly feel blessed that Davis works as hard as he does for us to be able to do that.  I know being a stay at home mom isn’t for everyone, but for me, it’s a dream come true.  Being a mommy is my passion.  My life revolves around my kids and I live every day for them and Davis.  With that being said,  a stay at home mama is, at times, also a very lonely job.  Having no adult contact some days can drive me crazy.  Thankfully Walt is starting to have full conversations so I can give the birds a rest (JK).  My goal with this blog is to inspire other mamas to see the fun side of mom life.  I love being inspired by other mamas through social media, and I hope that I can inspire people as well.

    Homemade Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs

DIY Reese's Eggs - Piloting Life

Bathing suit season is just around the corner (or already here where I live), but I just can’t help myself when Easter rolls around and those delicious Reese’s peanut butter eggs come out.  I truly have an addiction to them!  When we pass the display at Target that ALWAYS has bags of Reese’s in it, Walt likes to yell out as loud as he can “there’s mommy’s snack”.  Haha, embarrassing.  I know.  Instead of buying a (giant) pack this year, I decided to try to make some myself.  These turned out so good.  I mean seriously… they are SO good!  I already had every ingredient I needed for the recipe at home except for one, so it was super easy!  They also take very little prep work time, which is a big win for busy mamas like me.DIY Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs - Piloting Life Read more…

    DIY Marble Eggs

I’m OBSESSED with these marble eggs!  I originally got the idea from a blog I found on Pinterest, and it was a total Pinterest fail.  So I tweaked the directions and it worked perfectly.  This craft is super easy, super cheap, and really pretty.  Especially for marble fanatics like me! Safari Party – Walt turns O N E

I started thinking about Walt’s first birthday party before he was even born.  When we were in Africa we decided we were ready to become parents.  We had such a peace about it and knew the time was right.  So, what better theme for a first birthday party than a Safari?  Of course, I went straight to Pinterest for some inspiration.  I found a bunch of great DIY ideas for his party!

    DIY Magnetic Chalkboard

I have always loved chalkboards.  When I was a kid, I would get so excited when my teacher would call on me to go to the chalkboard to answer a question.  When I heard about chalkboard paint, I knew I had to have that for my boys.  While doing some research to figure out how I wanted to create the chalkboard, I found out about magnetic primer.  We don’t have a magnetic refrigerator, so I knew I wanted something for Walt to be able to play with all his magnetic letters and numbers on.  This was perfect!  I was a little nervous about how well it would actually work, but I figured it was worth a shot.
